Overview
This site is a personal portfolio and writing space run by Rafael J. Schwartz. It uses two optional analytics tools — Google Analytics 4 and Hotjar — to understand how visitors use the site. Neither tool is loaded until you give consent.
What we collect and why
When you accept analytics cookies, the following data may be collected:
- Google Analytics 4 — anonymous usage data: pages visited, session duration, referral source, device type and browser. No personally identifiable information is collected. IP addresses are anonymised by default.
- Hotjar — session recordings and heatmaps that show how visitors interact with pages. Keypress data is suppressed. Hotjar automatically masks input fields.
If you decline all cookies, none of these tools are loaded and no tracking data is collected.
Cookie retention
- Google Analytics 4— analytics cookies expire after 13 months. Data is retained for 14 months in Google's servers.
- Hotjar — session data is retained for 365 days.
- Consent preference— your accept/decline choice is stored in your browser's localStorage indefinitely until you clear it manually.
Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of any personal data held about you.
- Deletion— request that your data be deleted. For GA4, you can use Google's browser opt-out tool. For Hotjar, visit Hotjar's opt-out page.
- Withdraw consent— clear your browser's localStorage at any time. The consent banner will reappear and you can decline all cookies.
Third-party processors
- Google LLC— Google Analytics 4. Data is processed under Google's standard contractual clauses. Google Privacy Policy
- Hotjar Ltd — Hotjar session analytics. Hotjar is GDPR-compliant and stores data within the EU. Hotjar Privacy Policy
